How To Fish Patch Notes

Quick answer: the current version is Patch 1.0.10 (released August 27, 2026) — Dazed Games calls it the biggest update yet. Weapons and tools can now be uncooked by dipping them in water, up to 64 dropped ground items persist between sessions, and a long list of connection and roulette fixes landed. The developer is shipping patches at an unusual pace: six updates in the first week.

Patch 1.0.10 — August 27, 2026 (current)

The headline change fixes the game's funniest accident: weapons and tools that got cooked on the Grill can now be cleaned by dipping them in water. No more losing an upgraded gun to a cooking mishap.

Ground items finally persist. Up to 64 dropped items are now saved between sessions, and the save prioritizes weapons, tools, quest items and creatures — so the loot you actually care about survives a restart. This is persistence, not inventory recovery: items that already fell through the map or vanished are a separate problem.

The rest of the list: Anglerfish received a slight health nerf after complaints about its tankiness; explosion velocity is capped so items no longer fly beyond recovery; two pickup bugs (player-and-seagull grabbing the same item) are fixed; roulette lost its infinite high-value ticking and its next-session break; connection time allowed for joining was increased, which should reduce instant disconnects; the Radar's X marker (your last death position) was removed because it confused more than it helped; and the game version number now prints in player.log for easier debugging.

Three fixes shipped with cautious wording — roulette ball clipping through the wheel, items spawning far away when equipped, and items falling through the level on load. Treat those as attempted fixes and report them again if they still reproduce on 1.0.10.

Patch 1.0.9 — August 24, 2026

The difficulty update. Easy, Normal and Hard modes arrived, switchable from the main menu or in-game. Easy Mode: all creatures have 25% less health and deal 50% less damage. Hard Mode: 25% more health, 25% more damage. Default remains the launch balance.

This patch also added the Steam connection debug readout to the main menu — if the Steam relay text turns red, the game is telling you the connection failed during initialization, and the official guidance points to the #common-bugs channel on the community Discord rather than a universal firewall recipe. The patch also includes an attempted fix for save file corruption; players still having loading problems are directed to the Discord's removal guide.

Patch 1.0.8 — August 24, 2026

A small but relief-inducing fix for controller players: PlayStation controller glyphs now display correctly. Fire sizzling sounds were also correctly linked to the FX volume slider, so the slider actually changes the sound.

Patch 1.0.6 — August 23, 2026

The save-safety patch. The game now checks a save file before loading it, which killed the fake servers that appeared with the name "Game Name". Crashing no longer writes saves — the game saves when you press Save, return to the Main Menu, or Quit, plus an autosave every minute, so a crash costs at most a minute of progress.

Patch 1.0.5 — August 22, 2026

The multiplayer and fairness patch. Private, invite-only lobbies arrived. Session type can now be changed in server settings mid-game (with a required restart after changing). The minimum locked FPS option dropped from 50 to 30. Three exploit and bug fixes matter for achievement hunters specifically: you can no longer travel to any island without unlocking it — which broke every early speedrun route overnight — invisible skins during 4K slot machine rolls were fixed, and the "find all Drip creatures" achievement no longer demands one extra find beyond the full set. Griefers can also no longer instantly end the game when joining.

Patch 1.0.4 — August 21, 2026

The lobby-size patch: support for up to 8-player lobbies, plus a round of boss nerfs. Note the store description still says 1–4 players — the patch is the newer truth. This is the patch that turned the game into a proper big-lobby co-op experience.

The known issues still open

Based on the official notes and current community reports, these are the live problems to know about as of 1.0.10: black screens and invite failures still occur for some players (the official debug path is the main-menu Steam relay indicator plus the Discord's #common-bugs channel); high GPU usage and mouse-movement stutter are reported and not yet directly addressed in a patch note; fish not biting on the second island is mostly the hold-to-reel control change, not a bug; and the three cautiously-worded 1.0.10 fixes above are worth re-testing. When a patch lands, check its note against this list — anything explicitly named is fixed, anything absent is still open.

How to update and verify your version

Steam updates the game automatically; if you suspect you are behind, right-click the game in your library, choose Properties, then Updates, and check. The version number is now printed in player.log (added in 1.0.10), and the community Discord announces every patch the moment it lands. After every update, restart Steam completely — closing only the game does not rebuild Steam's connection state, which matters for the multiplayer fixes above.

What not to do

  • Do not follow launch-week guides that assume island-skip — 1.0.5 closed it, and routes built on it cannot finish.
  • Do not expect cooked gear to be lost — 1.0.10 uncooks it in water; older "your gun is gone" advice is obsolete.
  • Do not treat the store page's "1–4 players" as current — 1.0.4 raised lobbies to 8.
  • Do not skip full Steam restarts after patching — most "the fix didn't work" reports trace to stale sessions.
