How to Fish Achievements
How To Fish All Achievements
Quick answer: How to Fish has exactly 28 Steam achievements. The efficient path is to finish the five-island story first, then clean up the rest with free post-game travel. Two traps catch most hunters: outdated Bean speedrun routes from before Patch 1.0.5, and the Drip achievement bug that Patch 1.0.5 fixed.
The confirmed count
The number 28 comes straight from Steam: the store's global achievements section and Steam's own data both list 28 for app 4001890. The fan wiki runs an achievement tracker that matches the same 28, and every major guide — Sportskeeda, GameRant, Game8, Destructoid — builds around the same count. There is no DLC or secret 29th achievement; if a site claims one, it is wrong or outdated.
All 28 achievements
This table follows the official Steam order. Conditions marked with a dash were not fully documented in the sources we checked at publication, so we state what is confirmed and leave the rest to the in-game description rather than inventing steps.

Honesty note: the achievement names in this table are confirmed against the official list. For roughly a third of them, the one-line conditions above are the community's working understanding — the sources agree on the names and the general shape, not every exact trigger. Where a row says less than you hoped, trust the in-game description over any guide, including this one.
The recommended completion order
Do not chase achievements one by one on your first playthrough. The community consensus — and the structure of the game — supports a two-phase plan. Phase one: play the five-island story normally. A single natural run unlocks a large share of the list as you go: first kills, upgrades, cooking, boss defeats, story moments, and the Easy mode clear if you set the difficulty at the start. Phase two: use post-game free travel to clean up what remains, now with money, weapons and island access that make each task trivial.
The cleanup pass is also where the achievements with unknown-or-variable conditions resolve themselves: playing more of every system (cooking, gambling, collecting, trick shots) covers most of the list without targeted grinding.
The two traps
Trap one: Bean routes go stale. Bean requires finishing the whole game in under one hour, and the route that worked before Patch 1.0.5 stopped working when that patch removed the island-skip exploit. Guides written in launch week send you through a door that no longer exists. Check any Bean guide's patch version before following it — a route updated for 1.0.9 or later is what you want, and our Bean guide keeps a version stamp for exactly this reason. For perspective on the time budget: the any% speedrun world record sits around 15 minutes on the current patch, so the one-hour requirement has room — the barrier is knowing the route, not raw speed.
Trap two: the Drip achievement bug. Before Patch 1.0.5, the "find all Drip creatures" achievement would not unlock until you found one extra creature beyond the full set — the counter silently required "all + 1". Patch 1.0.5 fixed this. If you read an old guide telling you to hunt a mysterious extra Drip, skip that advice: on the current patch, completing the set completes the achievement.
The hardest three, briefly
Bean is the marathon: one hour, full game, no wasted steps — the game's most famous achievement and the one Sportskeeda calls the hardest in the game. Handyman is the nerve test: the final boss, the Mutated Bowhead Whale, beaten with empty hands — the community's consistent verdict is that it is more manageable than it sounds, because the fight rewards positioning over firepower. Impressive is the technique test: a single kill carrying a 5x Killscore multiplier, which means stacking style conditions — mid-air hits, long-range shots — on one creature at one moment.
Each of the three has, or will get, its own dedicated guide; this page is the map, not the deep dives.
What not to do
- Do not follow Bean routes without checking their patch version — pre-1.0.5 routes physically cannot finish the run anymore.
- Do not hunt an extra Drip creature past the full set — that was the 1.0.5 bug, and it is gone.
- Do not save Handyman for a co-op session where teammates can steal the final blow — empty hands means your hands.
- Do not grind achievements before finishing the story — post-game travel makes most of them faster.
