How to Fish Island Progression

How To Fish Grill Cooking

Quick answer: the Grill is on Island 3 (Desert) and cooking an item on it raises its sell value toward a 1.5x point — the sweet spot before burning. It cooks anything, including your weapons and fishing rod, which is both the joke and the hazard. Since Patch 1.0.10 a cooked weapon can be uncooked by dipping it in water, so the accident is no longer permanent.

How to unlock the Grill

The Grill is part of Island 3's progression: advance the Desert island's questline — upgrade gear, help the tourist NPC — and the Grill becomes available as part of the island's facilities. No purchase is documented for it in the sources we checked; it unlocks with the island's tasks. If you are on Island 3 and cannot find it, finish the tourist's request chain first; the island's landmarks (and the Pufferfish bait quest) sit on the same progression track.

What cooking does to value

Cooking multiplies sell price, and the community's working number is 1.5x at the right moment — pull the item off at the value peak and it sells for half again as much as raw. The mechanic pairs with the Killscore system: a skillfully killed creature that is then cooked sells for killscore multiplier times cooking multiplier. That stacking is the core of every "make money fast" route in the game: catch, kill well, cook, sell.

The timing window matters — food left on the grill past the peak becomes burnt stock worth less than the cooked point, so the skill is in watching the item rather than walking away. This is also a co-op money role: one player fishes and kills, the other runs the grill between casts.

The accident: cooking your own weapons

Anything on the grill cooks, and that includes equipped weapons and the fishing rod if they end up on it — a physics game means your gear ends up in strange places. Before Patch 1.0.10, a cooked gun was cooked forever, a running joke with real cost: an upgraded weapon reduced to novelty status. Game8 even maintains a guide on cooking a gun on purpose, because players kept doing it by accident anyway.

Since the 1.0.10 patch (August 27, 2026), the fix is official and free: dip the cooked weapon or tool in water and the cooking state clears. Shallow water at the shore works — you do not need to swim. Older guides describing the cooked gun as permanent are outdated as of 1.0.10.

Cooking beyond the Grill

The Grill is not the only thing in the game that cooks. Dynamite, the same store-bought explosive that shortcuts the Piranha fight, cooks fish when it kills them — a dynamited catch arrives ready-priced closer to the cooked tier, which is why the explosive doubles as both a boss shortcut and a lazy cooking method. The community money guides treat this as a legitimate efficiency: for players who find grill timing fussy, catching well and killing with dynamite compresses the whole catch-kill-cook loop into one step, at the cost of the explosive price and the occasional flying loot. It is also the reason some speedrun and achievement routes carry dynamite into ordinary fishing — the Bomb-related play patterns and the seagull-detonating achievement both come from the same toolbox.

Cooking achievements

Two achievements hang on this system. Dinnertime and Yummy in my tummy sit on the eat-something-cooked tier — cook any food and eat it, and both unlock on the natural playthrough. Grillmaster is the cooking dedication achievement, tied to spending real time on the Grill during a run that most players spend fishing instead. None of the three are missable in a permanent sense: post-game free travel lets you return to a Grill and finish the cooking achievements at any point.

If you are hunting a 5x Killscore for the Impressive achievement, the Grill is not involved — that multiplier is all in the kill. Cooking is the second multiplier, applied after.

What to cook first

The economical answer is whatever you already killed well. A creature with a decent killscore multiplier gains more absolute value from the 1.5x cook than a cheap creature does, so cook your best kill of the session rather than filling the grill with small fry. High-value single items — boss drops you are allowed to sell, expensive fish — benefit most. Quest items are the exception: they are progression currency, and grilling a quest item before handing it in is exactly the kind of accident the uncook patch now rescues you from.

What not to do

  • Do not grill quest items — hand them in raw; the 1.5x is not worth a broken progression chain.
  • Do not walk away from the grill at the peak — burnt is worse than cooked.
  • Do not assume a cooked weapon is ruined on the current patch — water uncooks it.
  • Do not follow old guides calling the cooked gun permanent — they predate 1.0.10.

### Does cooking stack with everything?

Cooking stacks with the killscore multiplier and with any lure-based value quirks the catch already carries — it is the last multiplier applied before the sale, not a replacement for catching well. What it does not stack with is itself: a second pass on the grill does not compound toward 2.25x. One item, one cooking pass, one value point.
